Read the story behind the scene of one of childhood's favorite nursery rhymes: a piggy pie-loving Queen, her vegetarian King and the fate of 24 blackbirds.  Fortunately for the blackbirds, there is a surprise ending thanks to the quick thinking of the Guard, the Huntsman, the Cook and the Baker.

If you know the tune to "Sing a Song of Six Pence" you can sing By Order of the King to your children for added enjoyment. You will need to repeat a line of the story to make it work out here and there but that is where the fun is...to figure it out together.

Sing a song of six  pence a pocket full of rye Oh, Once there was a piggy Queen sometimes dressed in pink or green

Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie She loved her King but better still she loved the taste of sugared swill

When the pie was opened the birds began to sing Nothing held her interest more  than all those pies she did adore

Now wasn't that a dainty dish to set  before the king! Once there was a piggy Queen  sometimes dressed in pink or green!
